  • Mandinka is a West African language spoken by approximately 1,325,000 people in the world.
  • It is used in Mali, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Chad.
  • It is also called Mande, Manding, Mandingo, Mandingue, Mandinque, or Socé.
  • Mandinka can be written in Latin and Arabic scripts. While the Latin script is official, more people use the Arabic script. An additional script, N’Ko, is used in northeast Guinea and some parts of the Ivory Coast and Mali.
  • Mandinka is not to be confused with Dinka or Maninka.
